Ise-Shima National Park
One of Japan's leading national parks woven by the sea, forests, and people's lives
Ise-Shima National Park is a national park that spreads throughout the Shima Peninsula in Mie Prefecture, and boasts a vast area of about 60,000 hectares that spans Ise City, Toba City, Shima City and Minami Ise Town. This is the first national park born after the war in 1946, and will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2026.
This area features two natural landscapes: the inland area of forests centered on Ise Grand Shrine, one of Japan's leading sacred places, and the coastal area of the beautiful Rias coast where large and small inlets and islands are connected.
Another major feature of Ise-Shima National Park is that about 96% of the area is private land.
It is a rare national park in the world where people live in nature and coexist with nature along with traditions such as fishing, pearl farming, and diver culture.
